Prepare for social outings this Monday
There is no doubt that quitting smoking is difficult, especially in a social setting. Make this Monday to be ready to face your social triggers to make it easier.
Now that you are a non-smoker, it is time to start thinking about ways you can quit smoking.
Distract yourself from being triggered. Consider spending more time in places where smoking is not allowed. Smoking is prohibited in many public places such as parks, libraries, shopping malls, museums, theaters, and restaurants. If you find yourself in a place where you used to smoke, be prepared. Bring distractions like straws, healthy snacks, bottled water, chewing gum, or sugar-free candy.
Find the right people to hang out with, be it family, friends, or a given up buddy. Access and make plans for social outings so you feel supported and encouraged.
Make a habit of taking a deep breath whenever a social trigger feels like it might be just around the corner. It could make all the difference. Inhale slowly, count to six, exhale slowly and count to six. Feel how clean, fresh air replaces your urge to smoke.
